Started by students.
Built for students.

We started Calculators4Cause as students at Darien High School because we noticed something that didn't make much sense. Graphing calculators can cost over $100, but many students are expected to have one for math class. At the same time, plenty of perfectly good calculators end up sitting in drawers once students no longer need them.

We wanted to do something about that. By collecting calculators that people aren't using anymore, we can help get them into the hands of students who need them. It's a pretty simple idea, but we think small efforts like this can make a real difference.

Questions, answered.

Everything you need to know about the calculators we collect, how to prepare them, and why donations matter.

What types of calculators can I donate?

Calculators4Cause accepts scientific and graphing calculators used in mathematics and science education. Scientific calculators are commonly used for algebra, geometry, and trigonometry; graphing calculators support more advanced courses and functions. If you are unsure which type you have, check the model name on the front or back of the device.

Can I donate a used calculator?

Yes. A calculator does not have to be new to be useful. Previously owned scientific and graphing calculators are welcome as long as they are in working condition. Before donating, turn the device on and check that its buttons and screen respond normally.

Should I include batteries, chargers, or a cover?

If you have the original protective cover, charging cable, or other accessories, keeping them with the calculator can make it easier for the next student to use. Check the battery compartment for leakage or corrosion, and avoid including damaged batteries.

Can I donate multiple calculators?

Absolutely. If you have several working scientific or graphing calculators from past classes, a school collection, or a group drive, they can all help support the mission. Check each calculator individually before setting it aside for donation.
